All Roads has acquired a new Wirtgen SP-15 concrete curb machine that can pour curbs and gutters without the need for string lines. We put it to the test at our latest project site in Langley, where it passed beautifully and delivered 1,400 linear meters of flawless concrete curbs.

Our stringless technology not only eliminates various common hazards and workplace injuries, but also increases production efficiency by eliminating the need to install string lines.

All Roads continues to pursue industry leadership in concrete and paving technology with its newest tool. We are one of the only contractors in the Lower Mainland using this highly advantageous stringless technology. Although the Wirtgen SP-15 is an exciting fresh addition to our advanced equipment lineup, we are not entirely new to stringless paving, as we first introduced this technology to our operations four years ago.

The use of string lines has been standard practice in conventional curb-building, wherein the manual set-up of pins and strings has been essential to ensuring the horizontal alignment of curb structures. These taut strings normally serve as a reference for the paving machine, which senses the linear guides and steers itself accordingly to pour the curb mould to the specified design elevation.

Although useful, string lines are labour-intensive. Crew members must install curb pins every few meters on curves and every 10 meters on straight stretches. Accurate placement at specific heights is crucial to ensure the curb is poured to the design elevation, which is typically achieved using survey hubs installed before work begins on site.

Not only do string lines require a lot of time and energy to be installed, but they also pose a significant risk to workers. There have been numerous instances of injuries resulting from this old-school method of curb construction, including wrist strain from pounding pins with a sledgehammer, accidental injuries from missing pins upon strike, and trips caused by the string lines. Our stringless technology not only eliminates these hazards but also increases production efficiency by eliminating the need to install string lines altogether.

This specific project where our Wirtgen SP-15 made its debut is for our valued client, Regehr Contracting Ltd. This site is located at 208th St and 76th Ave. It involves a concrete, milling, and paving roadworks package for a multi-lot subdivision currently being serviced and prepared by Regehr Contracting.

The project is valued at approximately $600,000, and we are pleased to provide this service to our client using the latest and best technology available.

We are committed to being industry leaders with our ongoing pursuit of the most advanced technologies, and we have some exciting opportunities in store for the near future. Please stay with us and we will be sure to share this with you as soon as we can!
