How do you say goodbye to a man of whom nearly every street in the Vancouver area bears the mark of his work over the past half-century? At All Roads, we've been lucky. For the past five and a half years, we've had the privilege of working alongside a man who has spent more than half a century building the groundwork—quite literally—of our communities: Franco Pastro.
And this video is our tribute to his storied career in the road building industry in BC for over 53 years!
All Roads 2024: A Wild Year in Review (Featuring Rodfather Saga: Chapter 2!)
Buckle up—our 2024 season at All Roads wasn't just successful… it was downright cinematic.
Here's the quick "business-but-make-it-exciting" recap:
• 176 projects won
• Over $70 million in total project value
• 300,000+ metric tons of asphalt produced (that's… a lot of road)
But the real star of this video? Rodfather Saga: Chapter 2—our very own construction-themed mafia parody that answers questions no one asked, like:
What happens when Rodfather himself patches potholes in a tuxedo?
and
How dramatic can a fake "off-the-books favour" really get?
How Denis "Won" the Mic: The Battle for All Roads' 2024 Year-End MC Throne
For the first time in six years, Rod didn't host our 2024 year-end bash. Instead, our VP of Operations Denis Labelle stormed the stage - after launching a ruthless (and very entertaining) smear campaign, worthy of a low-budget political thriller, to dethrone Rod and secure the coveted MC title. He succeeded in toppling Rod and declared himself Master of Ceremonies for 2024.
This mock "election" campaign video reveals Denis's dramatic rise to questionable power and gives you a taste of how we blow off steam after a busy year. It's all in good fun… even if Denis's methods are shady at best.
Viewer discretion advised: may contain satire, ego battles, and dramatic microphone-grabbing.
Historic First in North America: Autonomous Self-Driving Paver Successfully Completes Highway Paving
In a landmark achievement for road construction, All Roads has successfully implemented Topcon's MC-Max paving technology to complete the first-ever fully autonomous highway paving project in North America. On a stretch of the Trans-Canada Highway, approximately 50 km east of Vancouver, our crew paved 10 km of highway lanes using a self-driving paver—an unprecedented milestone in the history of infrastructure development on the continent.
Tunnel Vision Excitement: Our Crew Hits the Cassiar Tunnels Borderline!
Move over, traffic — our crew has taken over the Cassiar Tunnels, and for one glorious night, it’s ours. We’re deep in Phase 5 of the Highway 1 paving project for the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure of BC, and this week we rolled right up to the westbound entrance of the iconic tunnels. Translation: we’ve officially hit the halfway mark! That’s 26 lane kilometers freshly paved and 16,690 tonnes of asphalt laid — all cooked up in our own eco-friendly, greenest-in-the-nation asphalt plant.
Asphalt Jointless Paving Explained: Highway Paving with 4 Pavers in Echelon
One of the most important specifications for highway paving is to avoid cold joints. A cold joint forms when asphalt from one paving pass cools before the next pass is laid alongside it. This happens when a single paver lays one lane, then returns later to pave the adjacent lane. By that time, the edge of the first pass has cooled, making it harder to bond with the new hot asphalt. Over time, these joints can become weak spots, leading to cracks and reduced pavement life.
To solve this, we use multiple pavers in echelon formation. This means several pavers work side-by-side, laying fresh asphalt in unison. The hot edges bond seamlessly, creating one continuous, jointless pavement — no matter how wide the roadway. The result is a stronger, smoother surface that lasts longer and requires less maintenance.
All Roads Begins Fifth Phase of Highway 1 Paving Project for the Ministry of Transportation and Transit
All Roads is proud to have been awarded the fifth phase of the Highway 1 paving project, covering 57.7 lane-kilometres from the Willingdon Interchange to the Cassiar Tunnels. This milestone marks the successful continuation of our work with the Ministry of Transportation and Transit, following the completion of the previous four phases. The total contract value for this phase is $7,449,000.
How Is Asphalt Made? How Does an Asphalt Plant Work? A Tour of the Greenest Asphalt Plant in Canada!
In this educational video, Rod Stephens, President of All Roads Construction, bares it all and gives an in-depth explanation of what makes this facility the greenest asphalt plant in Canada. He explains everything about how asphalt plant works! Specifically, he highlights 16 key factors that contribute to its environmental leadership.
All Roads Proudly Unveils Its Greenest Asphalt Plant Sign
Vancouver is known as Canada’s greenest city—and for good reason. Living here means embracing a lifestyle that values sustainability, clean energy, and a low carbon footprint. So, imagine the challenge of running an industrial facility in a place that holds environmental responsibility to the highest standard!
Enter All Roads. Despite the tough environmental testing requirements set by Metro Vancouver (and they are tough), we’ve not only met them—we’ve exceeded them. How? With our state-of-the-art Blue Smoke Capture System, a game-changing innovation in asphalt production.
With 2 massive traverse units installed, our asphalt plant expansion project enters its final stretch!
It was the final push in our ambitious asphalt plant expansion: installing the last 20+ pieces of equipment, including two massive traverse units — highly sophisticated conveyor belt systems mounted on top of our newly added silos. Each unit weighs over 12,000 pounds, and without them, the silos are just oversized metal shells.
Precision-dropped! Our asphalt plant's two new silos are finally in place
After six months of meticulous planning, coordination, and hard work, the All Roads Asphalt Plant has officially added two towering new silos to its lineup—precision-dropped into place and readying for action!
All Roads gets started with the City of White Rock's 2025 paving program
Last October, All Roads proudly secured our first paving contract with the City of White Rock - an important milestone that we view as the foundation for long-term partnerships and future projects within the city. The $965,676.60 project involves significant road upgrades throughout the city, with over 10,500 square meters of full and variable depth milling and more than 3,000 metric tonnes of asphalt to be laid by completion.
